About drop-down fields

A drop-down field provides Form Users with a menu containing a list of items, from which only one selection can be made.

A Drop-down field is a a type of data field which provides Form Users with a list of items, from which only one selection can be made.

When adding a drop-down field to your template in the Template Editor, the contents of the list are entered manually or filled with a reusable Collection. Drop-down fields can also be set up to allow write-in entries by setting the Allow Other property to "Yes".

Drop-down fields are recommended when a user is selecting a single item for 4 or more choices. You can save your list of drop-down menu options and reuse it elsewhere. These saved lists are called Collections and are outlined below.

πŸ—’οΈ Note: If you're going to include fewer than 4 options, consider using a checkbox group field instead.

Add a Drop-down field to your Template

To add a drop-down field to your form, do the following:

  1. Drag a drop-down field into your Template from the Template Fields panel.
    ​

  2. Click the Customize button next to the Select Items property in the Properties panel.

    The Drop-down Options dialog will appear.

  3. Assign your drop-down options details. These include:
    ​

    1. Order determines an item's displayed position in the drop-down list.
      ​

    2. Display name is what your Form User will see when they're making a selection using the corresponding drop-down.
      ​

    3. The value is how the Form User's selection will appear in reports and be referenced in any formulas that reference the corresponding field.
      ​

    4. Select a default option if you want a specific option to appear by default when a Form is created using the corresponding Template.


      Click Done.
      ​

  4. Optionally, if you want your menu to have a write-in option, set the Allow Other property to Yes.
    ​

  5. Finish building your Template.
    ​
